Better Design Award Design Innovation Talent Training Successfully Held in Qingyuan, Guangdong Province, China

In response to the "Industrial Design Empowerment Guangdong Action Plan (2022-2025)" and the requirements of the Special Action for Industrial Design Empowerment in Eastern, Western, and Northern Guangdong, the Better Design Award Design Innovation Talent Training event was successfully held in Qingyuan on December 17. The event aimed to promote the transformation of design achievements in Guangdong and the gathering of outstanding talents.

The event attracted over 100 representatives, including excellent project teams from the Better Design Award, industry experts, enterprises from both upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, industry associations, and social organizations. Attendees included Cen Zhongjian, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Mayor of Qingyuan Municipal People's Government; Qiu Weibo, Deputy Secretary General of Qingyuan Municipal People's Government; Li Xiaoyu, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Qingyuan Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology; Lei Jianyong, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Qingyuan Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology; and Xu Xinquan, member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of Qingyuan Radio and Television Station.

The event introduced industrial service resources such as design agencies and academic experts, and included activities such as field research and keynote speeches. It also featured a good design exhibition and a design-driven brand exhibition. The goal was to create a platform for deepening the integration of design and industry, promoting the transformation of the Better Design Award's results, empowering Guangdong's high-quality development through design, and accelerating the "High-Quality Development Project for 100 Counties, 1,000 Towns, and 10,000 Villages."

At the event, senior design experts, including Feng Xiao, Co-founder of RITO Group and Vice President of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association; Tang Meimei, Partner at Shenzhen 9- o'clock Industrial Design Co., Ltd.; and Zhang Dan, Market Director of XIVO Design, gave in-depth presentations on design concepts, methods, and case studies. They provided design consulting services for Qingyuan enterprises and offered professional guidance on issues raised by the companies.

The roundtable discussion was hosted by Professor Zeng Zhilin from the College of Art Design at South China Agricultural University. Representatives from Qingyuan enterprises, including Xiao Yaying, Co-founder of ORIGINNOVATION; Wang Xing, Product Director and Senior Engineer at Yadea Motorcycles; Liu Rensong, R&D Director at Jiamei Ceramics; Bi Bo, Senior Engineer at Qingyuan GANI Ceramics; and Zhao Xiaocong, R&D Department Manager at Qingyuan Jialan Sanitary Ware, shared their insights and experiences on the theme "Design as a Golden Touch, Innovating Qingyuan – Paths to Innovation and Sustainable Development." The discussion focused on how design innovation can drive the high-quality development of Qingyuan's industries.

The event specially set up an interactive experience exhibition area for the BDA winners, showcasing outstanding award-winning works and design-driven brands. These products featured innovative designs and unique creativity, demonstrating the exceptional ideas of the participants, offering the audience a dual feast of visual and creative experiences.

After the training session, the participating representatives conducted in-depth field research at Qingyuan-based enterprises such as Guangdong Bucalu Curtain Wall, Window &Door System Co., Ltd and Guangdong Jiamei Ceramics Co., Ltd. They fully explored the design needs of the enterprises and the development trends of Qingyuan's industries, providing specialized opinions and guidance to industry talents. The event also aimed to explore new pathways for design empowerment in industry.

The representatives visited the Qingyuan Living Room to learn about the region's specialty agricultural products and listened to the development stories of Qingyuan’s high-quality local agricultural brands.
