The 2024 Better Design Award (BDA) has welcomed creative talents from around the globe since the launch of its call for entries on May 21. The total number of visits to BDA official website exceeded 300,000, receiving 7,183 outstanding designs from 52 countries and regions worldwide. The competition includes submissions from countries such as China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Japan and so on.
This year’ s competition has attracted enthusiastic participants from numerous prestigious universities, companies, and institutions both domestically and internationally. There are famous foreign participants from companies like HITACHI, Kia, Motorola, Panasonic, and Tesla, as well as participants from domestic giants such as Alibaba, Baidu, BAIC, BYD, GAC, Haier, Huawei, iFlytek, Artop Group, LKK, Mindray, Tencent, Xiaomi, XCMG, CRRC, China North Industries Group, China Electronics, China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Group, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Mobile, CNOOC, Sugon, Zoomlion, and ZTE, etc.. Their involvement has elevated the level of competition.
Many top-tier universities have shown great enthusiasm, showcasing innovation and vitality in global design education. The represented institutions are Brunel University, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, Royal College of Art, University of Leeds, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, University of London, University of the Arts London, Politecnico di Milano, Nanjing University of the Arts, Tsinghua University Academy of Arts & Design, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, University of York, China Academy of Art, and Central Academy of Fine Arts.
The BDA entries cover a wide range of fields, including equipment manufacturing, heavy machinery, aerospace and marine instruments, supercomputers, cutting-edge machines, next-generation electronic information products, modern light industry and textiles, home goods, CMF design, digital creativity and information services, national cultural innovation, fashion design, smart cities, urban public design, green ecology, future industries, and social innovation, showcasing the limitless potential of design.
· Preliminary Evaluation Meeting / September 9, 2024
Following the successful conclusion of the call for entries, the online preliminary evaluation meeting for the Better Design Award was held on September 9, hosted by Professor He Renke from the School of Design, Hunan University. The BDA organizing committee gathered 24 jurors to introduce this year's submission status and detailed the evaluation rules and process during the online meeting.
· Preliminary Evaluation Period / September 10-15, 2024
The preliminary evaluation process for the Better Design Award officially commenced at 00:00 on September 10 and finished until 24:00 on September 15. The jurors conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on the principles of fairness, objectivity, and professionalism, considering four key dimensions: innovation value, market value, sustainable impact, and social influence, to ensure the selection of high-quality, high-level award-winning works.
