The Better Design Award(BDA) Global Promotion Conference has been successfully held

On May 22, 2024, the Global Promotion Conference of the Better Design Award (BDA) was held in Shenzhen, attracting over 200 attendees, including design industry guests from home and abroad, experts and scholars in design innovation, representatives from the manufacturing sector, and media representatives. The award is guided by China Media Group, Guangdong Provincial People's Government, Guangzhou Municipal People's Government and Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, hosted by China Media Group Guangdong Headquarters and Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association. Its aim is to promote a better life through design and to facilitate deep integration between design and industry.

During the conference, the BDA International Academic Committee, led by academician Wu Zhiqiang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was formally established. The committee comprises five academicians and 15 industry experts, providing robust academic support for the award. Subsequently, the committee held its first seminar, where experts engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the integration of design and industry, and the contribution of design to high-quality urban development.

The award comprises two main categories: work and enterprise. The product selection is divided into product group and concept group, covering multiple fields such as equipment manufacturing, next-generation electronic information products, and smart cities. Products must have been launched in the market within two years, while concept designs should be original works that have not been sold or produced in the market. The award for design enterprises focuses on brands driven by design, with TOP10 Brands Driven by Design to be a highlight.

The evaluation process of BDA is rigorous, consisting of three stages: preliminary evaluation, second evaluation, and final evaluation. All submissions are submitted online, and the final evaluation requires a live presentation. There are six types of awards, such as the BDA Grand Award, Gold Award and so on, with a total prize pool exceeding 4 million RMB Yuan, of which the BDA Grand Award in the product group boasts a prize of up to 1.5 million RMB Yuan.

Additionally, BDA offers comprehensive services such as industrial policies, incubation, and supply chain support for awarded projects to facilitate the transformation of design achievements. It also explores a fundraising model of "foundation + industrial investment" to ensure the sustainable development of the award.

Since its establishment in 2024, the Better Design Award will be held annually, calling for outstanding design works and brands from around the world through various channels. The award aims to build a Chinese design evaluation system, promoting the application of design in national key projects and strategic industries, and contributing to the high-quality construction of a strong manufacturing nation.
