The Better Design Award (BDA), which offers a prize pool totaling 4.25 million yuan (US$584,817), is calling for entries globally. A promotion conference for the design competition was held in Shenzhen on Saturday, the World Industrial Design Day.
Officially launched in May this year, the BDA aims to revolutionize the design industry by discovering exceptional designs, transforming remarkable products, and cultivating outstanding brands, with vision of better design, better life and better future.
According to the organizers, the competition introduces a unique “2+2” Chinese and foreign dual chairman system, ensuring that each of the two major categories has two Chinese and foreign chairmen overseeing the preliminary evaluation, re-evaluation, and final evaluation of product and brand selections.
Additionally, the competition has invited experts from diverse fields to form the review panels for each category.
The BDA encompasses two main categories: product and brand. It is open to manufacturing enterprises, design institutions, designers, as well as universities, individuals, or teams worldwide.
The product category includes product design and conceptual design teams, divided into three sub-categories: the pillars of a great power, good life, and future design. These categories cover products and services in equipment manufacturing, new generation electronic information products, smart cities, and more.
The brand category focuses on design-driven brands, including enterprises that have excelled in business models, design innovation, design management, or brands with growth potential propelled by design.
The competition features six award categories, with the BDA grand award being the highest honor carrying 1.5 million yuan. The concept grand award offers 500,000 yuan.
Applications are open until August at the design award’s official website.
The BDA is hosted by the China Media Group Guangdong Headquarters and the Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association, and supported by China Media Group, Guangdong Provincial Government, Guangzhou Municipal Government, and Shenzhen Municipal Government.
