Liu Guanzhong (China)

Senior Professor of Liberal Arts in Tsinghua University Doctoral Supervisor

Liu Guanzhong is one of the first batch of senior professors of liberal arts and a PhD advisor at Tsinghua University. He receives a special government allowance from the State Council and serves as Honorary Vice President of the China Industrial Design Association and Director of its Expert Working Committee, as well as Honorary Chairman of Dragon Design Foundation Award (DDF) Committee. He has twice won the Second Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Higher Education awarded by the Ministry of Education and has led a National Excellent Teaching Team and a National Quality Course. Liu was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution” Medal for Returned Overseas Students by the Ministry of Personnel and the State Education Commission. He has received numerous honors, including the National Outstanding Teacher Award in Higher Education, the Gold Medal for “Lifetime Achievement in Chinese Design” from the DDF Award, the “Top Ten Education Award” and “Promotion Award” in Chinese Industrial Design, the Outstanding Contribution Award in the Eighth Annual China Creative Industries, the 2016 World Green Design Contribution Award, “Outstanding Contributor to China’s Prosperity” in 2016, and “Public Welfare Figure of the Year” in 2017. In December 2018, he received the “Forty Designers of Forty Years of Reform and Opening-Up” Special Award from the DDF Award. In December 2019, he was awarded the Gold Medal in the 15th DDF Award—one of the “70 Designers of China” in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.
