On July 13, the Shanghai Promotion Conference for the Better Design Award (BDA) was successfully held, marking the official kickoff of this international award aimed at "discovering good design, transforming good products, and creating great brands".

The award is guided by China Media Group, Guangdong Provincial People's Government, Guangzhou Municipal People's Government and Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, hosted by China Media Group Guangdong Headquarters and Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association. The event brought together designers, company representatives, investment institutions, and media professionals from around the world to witness this significant event in the design community.

At the conference, Shirley Feng, Director General of China Industrial Design Collaborative Innovation Platform, President of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA), delivered a speech emphasizing that the BDA aims to showcase China's technological wisdom, design intelligence, and the creativity of lifestyle through the three realms including the Pillars of a Great Power, Good Life, and Future Design. This vision not only set a solid tone for the award but also inspired guests at the event to envision the limitless possibilities of future design.

During the guest sharing session, several industry leaders offered their insights. Guo Wenqi, President of the Chunmi Technology Innovation Design Center, emphasized the need for design to balance technological and emotional requirements, noting that while AI technology is powerful, it should still be based on the designer's creativity. Dr. Zhang Wenquan, Chief Engineer at NETA Automobile Design Center, shared the evolution of car design from artisan craftsmanship to the AI era, encouraging designers to embrace uncertainty. Zheng Zhongyang, founder of Puxiang Culture, and Jamy Yang, founder of YANG DESIGN, discussed how design can create new value in the AI era and how to maintain criticality and innovation in design from their respective professional perspectives.

As the promotion conference concluded successfully, Better Design Award officially started to call for entries. The award welcomes outstanding design enterprises, institutions, design agencies, universities, design teams, research institutions, and individuals from around the world to actively participate and contribute to the development and innovation of the global design industry. The registration deadline is August 31, 2024. Participants can submit their registration information through the official BDA website (http://www.bdaward.com) and embark on their own design journey.
